CORSAIR

They were free sailors who hired and financed by a state that could be at war against another used them and their vessels to attack and cause losses to their enemy. Up to a point, they were respectful of the laws of war and faithful to the monarch who hired them. His activities as a privateer ended when peace was established between the warring nations.
